Do You Have a Leadership Playbook? (3/4/2025)

Happy Tuesday!
Later today I am leading a brand-new webinar – The Flexible Leader’s Playbook: Leading More Effectively in Every Situation. As I finished the slides, I got more excited about what I am going to share. But I can only share it with you if you join us! When you do, you will leave with new ideas that can build your confidence in the uncertain situations you face as a leader every day. This interactive webinar is open to all leaders and those who care about the leaders in their organizations. Join me today at 1 pm ET. Register even if your calendar is booked.
Why?
Because you will get access to the recording if you do.
As I worked on the webinar, I got so excited, I changed what I wanted to write for you today – to continue the Leader’s Playbook idea. I hope you enjoy the article, and please say hello when you join us for the webinar tomorrow.
If you love this issue, please forward it to someone you think would enjoy it. (Scroll to the bottom and see some ways you can get some gifts from us for doing so.) If you are reading it because it was forwarded, please subscribe here.
Make it a great day and remember…
You are Remarkable!

How Do You Feel About AI?
Last October, the Pew Research Center asked over 5,000 employed U.S. adults some questions about AI (here’s more on the study). 17% hadn’t heard of AI so they weren’t asked the question.
How do you generally feel about how AI may be used in the workplace in the future?
Before you read on, how would you answer?
And how do you think others would answer?
52% said they were worried
36% said they were hopeful
33% said they were overwhelmed
29% said they were excited
Other than the numbers not adding to 100% (it makes sense to me; it is very possible to have more than one feeling about these technologies), here’s what I notice.
It’s not surprising that people are worried about something new, with plenty of uncertainty. But 52% worrying doesn’t seem like that big of a number to me. And I would guess that as people have more time to use the variety of constantly improving tools, that the number will drift lower.
The overwhelmed number is also a bit lower than I would have guessed. Again, I think this is a good sign that people are generally open to trying and applying these new technologies.
While it is likely some of the same people, the percentage that say they are hopeful and/or excited, is higher than the percentage who are worried.
Take-aways
While the headlines will focus on the more than 50% being worried, I don’t think that is the biggest message here. There is hope that change will have less resistance than you might have expected. If you are a leader who is trying to encourage and find ways to use AI in your organization/with your team, here are three take-aways:
Check with your team. Find out how they feel. Chances are the same feelings will show up, but you want to understand their feelings, not assume their feelings match the study.
Acknowledge the worry and overwhelm where it exists. Let people know it is ok to feel that way and encourage baby steps. Have the group share tangible successes and invite those who are cautious or concerned to partner with those on the team who are seeing successes.
Focus on tangible real-world work. Overwhelm and worry are reduced when people see real applications of any tool. This will help transform emotional responses into informed experience.
And if you are a leader who is living in worry about these tools, make sure you don’t become an ostrich, ignoring and denying how these tools might help you and your team. As a leader, you have a responsibility to step forward boldly and intelligently, even if you aren’t thrilled with the prospects personally.
Do You Have a Leadership Playbook?
The concept of a playbook in sports originated over 100 years ago in American football. Now, versions of a playbook exist in most sports. My question is, should they be limited to sports?
