We Want Better Decisions, So Why Do We Focus on Information? (04/28/26)

The Power of New Words

Apparently after a hot summer last year, Japan announced a new word for days when the temperature surpasses 40 degrees Celsius (the people in Las Vegas and much of Arizona are not impressed).

Whether you are impressed or not by this news story, it reminded me of the power of words. When a new word is created (or for us personally, when we become aware of one), they can help us sharpen our thinking, create new frames to understand things, and overtime give us better ways to communicate ideas with others.

You can gain these benefits by increasing your vocabulary. What will you do today to add to your vocabulary?

We Want Better Decisions, So Why Do We Focus on Information?

Most would say that information helps us make decisions. Since we live in a time where information is almost free, and we have more of it than ever, you would then think that decisions would be easier and more reliable than ever…

But most would also agree that isn’t necessarily the case.

Since we could say that the best leaders make the best decisions, it makes sense to unpack and better understand the relationship between information and decisions.

"Any fool can know. The point is to understand."
