What Does Your Organization or Team Celebrate? (12/09/2025)

Happy Tuesday!

I’m having a different experience of Christmas this year, since one of our major family celebrations already happened. Because of our preparation for that event, our Christmas shopping (and wrapping) is done for the rest of our family too, and we have two weeks to go.

I’m not saying this to brag at all. I’m just noting that when you do things differently than usual, it gives you the chance for a new perspective.

I’m enjoying this new perspective and change from the past. I have no idea if it changes our behavior in the future, time will tell. But for a variety of reasons, I already know this will be a Christmas to remember in our house.

This issue has a celebratory and year-end theme – but neither are about Christmas or the holidays at all. Read on to see what I mean.

If you enjoy this issue – pass it on to someone or use the link below to encourage them to subscribe.

Make it a great Tuesday and remember …

You are Remarkable!

What’s Your Listening Age”

Whether you are a Spotify user and have an account or not, chances are you have heard something about listening ages in the last few days. For the last decade, Spotify has given each user a year-end report of sorts about their listening for the year. This year, they added a listening age to the report.

And for many, their Spotify “age” (based on what they listen to) is vastly different than their actual age.

There’s been confusion, angst, and nearly every other emotion associated with how people feel about this age Spotify has deduced, based on which five-year window the largest percentage of your listening came from.

While I don’t want to make too much of this algorithm (nor do I think people should be worried or in any way upset by a number on a phone screen), I think it is fascinating.

I find it most interesting if people’s listening ages are far older then they “really” are. It shows me they search for (or are open to) different musical perspectives, aren’t locked into old habits, and are likely in some interesting ways creative and innovative. (Or maybe they share the account with their parents?)

If people’s listening age skew way below their actual age, it could mean something similar, or it could mean their kids are using their account.

My hope is that whatever your listening age is, that it leads you to explore something older or newer than you this year – as a way to expand your horizons, and maybe find a way to put more joy in your life.

I share my account with my wife (and we share the same age too). And our listening age is 24 years younger than we are. Take that for what it is worth.

What Does Your Organization or Team Celebrate?

We know how to celebrate in our personal lives. We celebrate moments, events, accomplishments and memories. What about your team or organization? How does (or how often does) your organization or team celebrate?

My guess, based on observing organizations for approaching 40 years is, not very often or very well.

Before we talk about what you could celebrate, let’s talk about why you might want to. Here are psychological reasons why celebrations matter and help us individually and as groups.
